How to Care for Your Silk Scarf

A The Line Atelier scarf is more than an accessory—it is an heirloom in the making. Crafted from the finest silk and designed for longevity, each piece deserves care and consideration to preserve its beauty for years to come.

Storing Your Scarf

To maintain the integrity of your scarf’s fabric and print, proper storage is essential.

  • Original Packaging: Each scarf comes with a custom-designed, sturdy paper box, crafted in Norway. These elegant, slim boxes are designed for safekeeping between wears, protecting your scarf from dust, moisture, and unnecessary creasing.
  • Flat or Rolled Storage: Store your scarf flat or gently rolled inside its box to prevent fold lines and creases. Avoid tightly folding the silk for extended periods.
  • Avoid Sunlight & Humidity: Keep your scarf in a cool, dry place, away from prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, which can cause fading over time.

Cleaning & Care

Silk is a delicate yet durable fabric that, when cared for properly, can last for generations.

  • Professional Dry Cleaning: For the best results, we recommend dry cleaning to maintain the scarf’s brilliance and texture.
  • Handwashing (Only When Necessary): If needed, gently hand wash in cold water using a mild detergent formulated for silk. Do not soak. Rinse carefully and avoid wringing or twisting the fabric. Lay flat on a clean towel and reshape while drying.
  • Steam Instead of Ironing: To smooth out wrinkles, use a gentle steamer on a low setting. If ironing is necessary, turn the scarf inside out and place a protective cloth over it. Use the lowest heat setting and avoid direct contact with the silk.

Wearing & Preserving

Your scarf is designed to be worn and enjoyed, but a few mindful practices can ensure its longevity.

  • Avoid Contact with Perfume & Makeup: Apply any perfumes or beauty products before wearing your scarf to prevent staining.
  • Mind Jewelry & Accessories: Sharp edges, zippers, or rough jewelry can cause snags. Handle your scarf with care when pairing it with accessories.
  • Rotate Your Scarves: If you own multiple The Line Atelier scarves, rotate them to allow each piece time to rest, maintaining the silk’s elasticity and sheen.
